Mr. Iddrisu’s cousin came to the mission house this morning. She is an older woman and she is trying to raise enough money for her son who is about 35 years old to have back surgery. We heard that he needed surgery while we were still in the states. Because of your generous gifts for “whatever comes up” we were able to promise the family 1,000 dollars to help with the surgery if they could raise the rest of the money. The surgery is projected to cost 2500 dollars which is an awful lot of money by Ghanaian standards. The mother wanted to update us to how the fund raising was going and to thank us in person for the promise of help. They have raised the equivalent of 1200 dollars. Hopefully they will be able to get the rest of the money when the crops are harvested.
John Nchola, the evangelist that is trying to get his retirement money, came back to the mission house this afternoon. He had been to Tamale to the other tax office. In 2016 the government divided the SSNIT office (Social Security). Tier 1 is the part the employer pays and Tier 2 is the part that the employee pays; in the past both Tier 1 and Tier 2 were paid at the same office but because of concerns of fraud and poor investments the Tiers were divided. Now we pay Tier 1 in Yendi and have to go to Tamale to pay Tier 2. I said all that to say that John has to go to Tamale to retrieve part of his retirement. He brought a form that had to be filled out by the Child Center. He also has a portion to fill out. He said he will come back on Monday.
Red stopped by this afternoon; he has not been feeling well today; he wanted Steve to take his blood pressure. He said that he had a headache when he woke up this morning and a bit of a fever; he wondered if he might have malaria. He spent a good deal of time here at the mission house when Nazo was sick. His blood pressure was high and he had a low grade fever so Steve had him go to see a doctor.
Steve has been working on writing the monthly report and this morning I got the rest of the receipts entered for the general work fund. We still have to do the ones for the Child Center.
Steve finally got all the suitcases and containers we brought from the states unpacked and sorted! Now I can start packing for our trip home. We are always in a state of packing or unpacking.
Please continue to pray for us and for the work.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
