It took the ladies longer than normal to roast the corn and soybeans this morning because we had a problem with the metal piece of rebar that locks the door of the roaster. We somehow lost the original lock and had to have another one made that was a bit too big. The ladies complained so Steve took the lock to the grinding wheel to trim it down a bit. While he was gone the ladies forgot that the roaster was not locked and they put it on the fire and started turning it; you can imagine the rest; the corn poured out into the fire. They quenched the fire and tried to salvage as much corn as they could. They then began the tedious process of picking the bits of charcoal and ash out of the corn. Steve, Zorash and I were not there when the accident happened. When I got there the ladies blamed Steve for taking the lock to work on it. Really! While we were picking the corn we realized that pieces of plastic were stuck to the corn because when they started the fire they used a broken plastic tub as their fire starter. I told them that we had to throw the corn out or feed it to the animals because it was too dangerous to cook and grind corn that had burned plastic on it.
By 1:10 pm they had all the grain cooked and poured out on tarps to cool.
Steve went to the tax office this morning to pay the Withholding tax and the hotel/apartment tax. The officer who figures the hotel tax was not around today and when he went to the bank to pay the Withholding tax their internet was down so he could not pay it. The teller told him to leave the money and when the internet came back on she would generate his receipt.
This afternoon we met Zorash in town so we could pick up the Kulikulee that we ordered yesterday. We asked her when she would make more and she told us that she was trying to get everything ready so she could cook again on Monday. She did not take an order for Monday; she said that the people were worrying her too much because she had reserved all of the Kulikulee for us. They eat it with their tea and porridge in the morning.
While we were out we went looking for some light blue fabric that was solid and had no print; it also needed to be 100% cotton. After we checked 6 shops we finally found some; of course it cost more than I wanted to pay but I got it anyway because it was difficult to find. I did find a few other pieces of fabric that I thought were pretty. Fabric is my one weakness!
Timothy Niligrini’s brother has been in the hospital; he was so sick when Timothy took him to the hospital that they started treating him right away in the emergency ward. Please say a prayer for him. He has been discharged but he still is not in good shape according to Timothy.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
