It rained most of the night. This morning when Zorash came to work I could not help teasing her about the rain. About every week she tells me that the Agric people (agricultural specialists) predicted that there would be no rain in October. This morning I asked her what about the specialists and the rain, she said, “they are all liars!” How do they know anyway? Only God knows for sure! Donkey said at first we were crying for rain and now we are crying for the rain to stop! Isn’t that the way human beings are?
We were busily working in the Child Center when we looked up and there stood Dawda, the mason. We were surprised to see him because we have finished all the mason work we plan to do this year. We thought that he might be looking for some extra work to do but he said nothing; he just went to the front yard and greeted Mr. Iddrisu. The next thing we know someone has climbed up in the mango tree and is beating the tree knocking off the green mangos! The ladies that work the Child Center said that it was Dawda and that before he climbed the tree he asked Amama for a long stick so he could beat off some mangos. We were so annoyed! Everyone including Dawda knows that climbing the trees and beating them is not allowed! Steve went out and told him to get out of the tree because he did not want to be liable if he fell out and hurt himself! I told Steve that we should not let him have the mangos that he knocked out of the tree. Steve said that he was too annoyed to talk to him but I could if I wanted too. Dawda came down out of the tree but not until he knocked down another cluster of mangos. I went out to the tree and started picking up the mangos; I was going to make sure that I did not leave one behind even if I had to pull up my dress and use it as a basket! I said, “Dawda, I am very annoyed with you! You know that no one is allowed to climb the mango trees; you know you are not allowed to beat the trees!” He did not apologize or say he would not do it again; he said, “Is that so!” I said, “Yes that is so and you know it! Now, you can go!” I could tell Dawda was annoyed but so was I! What’s wrong with him; coming into someone’s yard and climbing the trees; even in this culture that is not allowed! Meri, Amama and Zorash were so happy that I told him to stay out of the trees!
We had 2 new orphans this morning. The little boy’s mother died 3 days ago. She was anemic and they could not find the O negative blood that they needed to give her a transfusion! The baby’s uncle was the one that came to the Center to get formula for the baby. He said that they looked all over trying to find blood; he even went to neighboring hospitals looking for the blood. The hospital gave him a list of a few people that he could buy blood from who were O negative but those people were not around. So sad! He said that the baby was still in the hospital because after the mother died the family was confused because they had to bury the mother and did not know what to do with the baby. The hospital said the baby could stay there for a few extra days.
We don’t know any of the particulars on the other baby because we don’t give out formula without a doctor’s prescription. The caregiver did not return with the script before we closed for the day. Hopefully they will be here bright and early tomorrow morning.
Have a great day!

When the parents came back from Bible study last night they caught me sitting in my new house holding onto the piece of fabric they hung in there. I was seriously trying not to like the new place but it is growing on me! One day it might be my favorite spot to sit but don’t tell them!
At noon when it was time for me to go back to my jail cell and wait for Mr. Iddrisu to bring me my bottle I made a great escape! Mom was changing my diaper and somehow the leash came loose and I was free! They thought that they would catch me when we went outside but I know this game! I darted right under their legs and out the door; it took me about 3 seconds to get up in the mango tree and there is no way they can catch me when I am up there. Mr. Iddrisu tried to entice me with the bottle; I was really hungry but not that hungry! I did climb out of the tree and darted to his table to grab his moringa. Donkey and Mr. Iddrisu snorts the moringa; you know it is an herb; and it is not really supposed to be snorted. Mr. Iddrisu says that it makes him bold to speak and Donkey says that it helps his body pains; sounds like drugs to me and I have never snorted anything in my life! Finally I had to come out of the tree because Mr. Iddrisu went in his office and the parents went back in the house. I hate to be left alone! When they caught me I had to go back to jail but at least I did get to eat my lunch!
Dad says I am faster than greased lightning! (Whatever that means!)
