Our trip was closer today. We traveled to Yawondo which is south of Kulkpeni. Timothy didn’t have to ride into town for a change because his house is on the way.
Our arrival was a little bit early so we took advantage of the time and greeted the chief. During our conversation he requested that we pray for rain. Some years ago when we visited the village we were asked to pray for rain and it rained the following day. As Christians we pray for rain without charge to the chief and the community; calling the rain in these parts is big lucrative business .
I was asked to preach about how and what to use the contribution money for. I emphasized to the congregation that the Church is not a bank so they don’t need to come to the treasurer to borrow money for their personal needs. After services Timothy and I answered the biblical questions and I spoke to the Church about child spacing.
We walked over to Brother Emmanuel’s brother’s house to thank him for some guinea eggs he had given to us. Emmanuel is the evangelist that died last year. This man had three different chicken hens that had guinea fowl chicks at various ages . One old hen had 17 chicks following her. The man said he can set 20 eggs under one setting hen. Kandie made a video of the chicks . She also made a video of the Dawadawa tree pods the ladies of the compound were in the process of cleaning to use as a spice in their stews. These pods are the size of Catawba tree pods ( as a child we called them snakes and would throw them at each other ) that are about a foot long and ½ inch wide. They grow in clusters in the trees.
Before leaving the area we drove a mile over to Jagrido where Timothy’s wife Rita requested assistance to bring her Dawadawa pods back to Kulkpeni. There were four large bags. When we arrived back at Timothy’s house Rita was so happy to get the bags. Timothy said he had a setting hen so he will put the guinea eggs under her and have some chicks.
Today was Yendi’s big market day. The Yellow-yellows were everywhere and had all the small passage ways choked. I was glad to get out of that mess!
That wraps up another Lord’s Day. Best wishes to all those mothers who are reading the Notes! May God bless.
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
