Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo went back to the office that is preparing Ghana’s National Identity cards. They have been there several times trying to get their ID cards. The latest excuse is that they have run out of the plastic cards that the cards are printed on. When Mr. Iddrisu came to work this morning he said that they had called him and that the cards were ready to be picked up. They spent the whole morning at the office standing in line only to find out that they still did not have the blank cards. We are between a rock and a hard place because the deadline for filing the employees’ taxes without the Ghana Card expired on May 1st. Without the card we cannot file their taxes and we cannot pay them. We told Mr. Iddrisu that we did not really need the card; all we needed was the number that would be printed on the card. Steve went with them back to the office and talked to the manager and explained the situation; he said he would put in a special request and see if he could get someone to give him their Ghana Card numbers and the guys were supposed to go back tomorrow and find out if the special request paid off! What a mess! Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo have had 6 months to get their cards but they did not like the idea of having to stand in line to get it done. We are pretty annoyed about the whole thing. All the other employees have their cards; even the ones that cannot read or write.
The good news is that this afternoon we went up to the tax office to see if we could get an extension or if we could use the old method one more month to file the taxes for Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo. We were very pleased when the guy told us that they had extended the deadline and we could file on them just like we did last month. He does not know when the new deadline is but we are safe for the moment!
The twin orphans that come from Wulensi were brought back to the Child Center this afternoon. They were late coming because it was raining in their area this morning and they could not get a bus to come. We are very worried about these little girls; they are 3 months old and they are not gaining weight; in fact one of them lost weight this time. We cannot figure out what is going on with them. They have to travel from so far away that we would like to give them more formula and extend the time between their visits but we cannot do anything until we see that they are gaining weight.
At April’s monthly class for the evangelists and church leaders Steve gave all the men that attended a bicycle pump. We had 4 left over so Steve gave them to the watchmen and Mr. Iddrisu and Nazo; they were very happy with the gift.
Thank you for the love, prayers and support.
In His Service,
Steve and Kandie
