We had a long drive this morning to reach our destination which is the congregation that meets at Bakjon in the Nanumba North District. I thought we were to visit the church at Bakpaba until Timothy called me last night and told me where we were scheduled to go.
Bakjon is in the process of building a new structure. They have the walls up as well as a sound roof. They are in need of a good plastering on the outside to help protect the walls. We provided some matching funds to help purchase cement and/or doors and windows.
I delivered a message about keeping ourselves and the church pure. The topic generated a lot of questions. There is a great problem of sexual promiscuity among the young people in Ghana. I stressed the need to keep oneself pure until they are married. Timothy and I spent 45 minutes answering questions after services. The audience really enjoyed the questions and answers period.
We were provided a meal of native rice with stew and a few fresh fish on top. I passed on the fish. Many of you know I can eat a lot of different things but I’m not a fishy-fish type of person. The rice and stew was delicious! The brethren also gave us a large number of yam tubers, guinea eggs, peanuts, and a rooster. What a gift!
Three people that caught a ride back to Yendi with us. One young lady was going to Yendi Hospital to have her ears examined. She had her ears pierced some time back and her skin is prone to have Keloids (overgrowing of scar tissue when the skin is cut or pierced). The Keloids have just about closed her ear canals. She hopes to have it repaired but I really have my doubts they will do anything because the problem usually gets worse the more you cut at the site.
The young woman we sent to Tamale with the bloated stomach (ascites) came by later this afternoon with her mother to thank us for our help. She is doing much, much better. She has to go back to Tamale tomorrow for a follow up exam but she didn’t have the money so we provided it for her. We thank you for your help with “whatever comes up” money.
Tonight at Kulkpeni I was asked to lead the bible study .I taught from Romans 8:1-5. After speaking for 10 minutes the questions took off and it was 30 minutes later when I sat down. One question that troubles the people here is the difference between defending yourself and committing murder. It made for a very interesting class period.
That’s it for today. Please keep us in your prayers. May God bless!
In His service,
Stephen and Kandie Taylor
