Steve had to refer a baby to the hospital today; he suspects that the child might be hydrocephalic.   He measured the baby’s head and it was larger than it should be for her age.  The mother also said that she had noticed the child had a bigger head than normal.  We think the mother will take the child to the hospital for a doctor’s opinion.  She might have to go to Tamale for further assessment.

It tried to rain all day but never quite made it.  When we went for our walk this morning Nazo advised us to stay close to the house; he said we should only walk up and down the lane in case it started to rain.

Zorash has started selling bagged water.  She is selling it from her  metal kiosk just up the road from the mission house.  She buys it from a company in Tamale that filters the water and puts it in clear bags that contain 2 cups each.  The water is then transported from Tamale to Yendi.   She told us she wanted us to buy from her when we ran out of water.  We told her we would if it did not cost more than the water we were buying that is filtered and bagged in Yendi.  When we ran out of water yesterday Mr. Iddrisu asked if he should order some from the guy we have been buying from.   He did not know that Zorash was selling water too.  I told him to wait until Zorash came back to work so we could see what kind of a deal she could make with us.   Well, this morning Nazo called Zorash and ordered 100 bags of water without asking permission!  When we got back from town they had already delivered about half of the water.  While we were in town we had bought 10 bags of water to hold us until Zorash came back to work and we could negotiate a price.  We were not happy with Nazo!  Nazo assured us that she would make the same deal with us as the other guy makes but guess what; she said that she could not match his price or she would not make enough profit.  Nazo apologized but at this point there was nothing we could do!

We spent the afternoon sorting and collecting stuff for the hospital.  We had to clean almost everything we are giving them because the dust is so bad; it covers everything.  Several people have given us breast pumps; when I packed the stuff I just sort of tucked the parts in here and there wherever I could find space.  We put everything that belonged together with the machine it belonged to.  We made copies of the instructions so the hospital would have some idea of how to use them.  We tested everything to make sure all were working.

Thanks so much for your help.
