Red stopped by for a visit this morning. When he needs work he comes to the mission house to see if we have anything that needs to be done. Steve has been talking about repairing the metal doors on one of the storage containers so he took Red’s sudden appearance to get started on that project. There are 2 metal containers; they are actually shipping containers that my parents shipped over in 1999 or 2000. We use them to store lumber, church benches, large tools, fencing, pipe and who knows what else. One of the doors has been in bad shape for years. It does not fully shut and when it rains heavily water gets inside. We thought that we might have to remove the doors and make new ones but it looks like we are going to be able to cut off the bottom of the doors and replace the metal while they are still hanging on the container. Red spent the day taking off the bars that lock the container and gathering supplies. He is supposed to come back tomorrow and continue. He will be on his own tomorrow while we are at church.
Speaking of church, Timothy Niligrini has taken a turn for the worse! He called Steve this afternoon and told him that he was too sick and weak to go to the bush in the morning. He is going to call the congregation we were to visit and let them know that we will not be coming and that we need to reschedule our visit until next month. Timothy said that he has been to the nurse that lives in their area and has gotten medicine. We sure wish he had gone to an actual doctor. He said that he does not have an appetite because nothing tastes good and he has a bitter taste in his mouth but his biggest complaint is that he is exhausted and does not want to get out of bed. Please keep him in your prayers.
The electricity went off last night; when Steve tried to start the generator it would not turn over. Steve suspected that the battery was bad so he took the battery out of the old van and put it in the generator; it started right up. Around noon we went to town to buy a new one; we don’t want to be without the lovely generator!
While we were in town we checked to see if the lady at the chop bar had made Banku today and again I was disappointed that there was no Banku. Steve got rice and tomato sauce with some fried yams. Steve usually gets the rice; he is not all that fond of the Banku.
Mr. Iddrisu came to work today even though it is really one of his days off. He needed to pay back some days that he owed us. If he works long on his day off we count it as 2 days of regular work.
Steve got the bushes in front of the mission house trimmed; he does it during the rainy season because it is better for the bushes; they get a chance to leaf back out before there is no rain. It rained most of the night last night; so much for the mosquito spray that Steve sprayed yesterday. Hopefully it was out there long enough to do a little good before it got washed away.
Take care and have a great day!
In HIS Service,
Steve and Kandie
